EIP: You grew up in Florida after your family immigrated seeking asylum. How has that experience shaped your perspective and artistic practice?
DANNY: Bush and Obama's Florida was an interesting place to grow up in. At that time, I was nine and could not process what was happening because I had to condition myself quickly to be accepted. Whitewashing came from within my home, influenced by the community in our church, where they expressed that to succeed, you have to let go of your mother tongue, stay out of the sun, and only have white friends.
