As "Artificial Intelligence" — Large Language Models — grows closer to passing the Turing test (being able to successfully imitate human interactions), we must realize as a society that this is not because the computer system using the Large Language Model is in any way Intelligent. It is because the intelligent species (humans) use a form of large language models to communicate. The computer programs are effectively learning to interact credibly with us, but do not have a soul or spirit guiding the interacting. We employ vastly complex language models to get us where we want to go in a conversation: our soul or spirit or consciousness (however you want to phrase it) is driving the conversation, the LLM is the vehicle. The computer program is literally a car without a driver in this instance.
